WinnDixie1Katrina Elizabeth DiCamillo is an American children’s fiction writer that has earned a college degree in English at the University of Florida. During her career she has written six novels, two of them won the Newbery Medal recognizing the year’s “most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.”
“Because of Winn-Dixie” is her debut novel published in 2000, that has won the Josette Frank Award and Mark Twain Award. Later, the book has been included in “Teachers’ Top 100 Books for Children.” by the National Education Association.
It is a wonderful story about a young girl named Opal, that has just moved to a small trailer park in Naomi, Florida. She didn’t know anyone in town, so her first friend becomes a scruffy dog.
