He is an American writer and mountaineer, primarily known for his writings about the mountain-climbing. He began his career as journalist and get popularity as a writer of «Outside» magazine. He also has appeared in «Architectural Digest», «National Geographic Magazine», «Rolling Stone», and «Smithsonian».

The author released his first book in 1996 titled «INTO THE WILD». The book is telling about the tragic expedition of Christopher Johnson McCandless. On April 1992 he headed down the snow-covered Stampede Trail in Alaska to begin an odyssey with only 10 pounds of rice, a .22 caliber rifle, several boxes of rifle rounds, a camera, and a small selection of reading material. He died of starvation and his body was founded by a hunter in September.
