Elie Wiesel was born in 1928 in the Romanian town Sighet. He is Jewish, French and American writer, journalist and public figure. He was the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. During the Second World War he was a prisoner of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz. Wiesel wrote in Yiddish, Hebrew, French and English. He is also a professor of Human Sciences at Boston University. His first book, published in Argentina in Yiddish titled “And the world is silent” in 1956. Short and adapted French version was released in 1958 under the name “Night” with an opening address by François Mauriac and immediately brought fame to the author. The book has been translated into 18 languages.
