Their Eyes Were Watching God is the best written novel by American-African writer Zora Neale Hurston, released in 1937. The novel’s story revolves around a young girl – Janie Crawford, whose life changed drastically after her teenage years. Action takes place in Florida in the first half of 20th century. Upon its release and many years later the novel was poorly accepted by the public, due to its racial restrictions. But nowadays it is as an example work in both Women’s literature and African-American literature. Also, TIME literature critics placed this fine novel in the top 100 best English-language novels from the past century.
